Part-time Staff Accountant

Location: Fort Wayne

The staff accountant will be responsible for navigating accounting and payroll systems. The successful candidate must be a creative problem solver. The staff accountant will assist the CFO with all accounting functions, including but not limited to payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and financial tracking.  The estimated hours for this position are 20 to 25 per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Document financial transactions by entering account information
  • Assist with the month-end close process, including journal entries, balance-sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliation, and accruals
  • Analyze accounts
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly internal and external reports
  • Assist with weekly credit card–account reconciliation
  • Maintain and create various Excel documents for management
  • Administer biweekly payroll, including all payroll deductions and taxes
  • Process employee expense reports
  • Maintain accounts-payable and vendor files
  • Follow up on invoice/PO discrepancies
  • Submit sales tax
  • Responsible for accounts-receivable cash applications
  • Maintain documentation and filing system for Finance
  • Maintain petty cash
  • Maintain fixed assets
  • Calculate profitability of projects and work with account services to reconcile and close projects
  • Responsible for the analysis and manipulation of job entries
  • Follow established accounting processes
  • Answer accounting-procedure questions from the team
  • Support the CFO
  • Perform such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time—quite often on short notice
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associate degree in accounting or finance required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3+ years’ work experience in the accounting field
